Selected Shrub/Trees

Explanations - Table Information

Approximate height at maturity. Some grow taller under ideal conditions or with age. Shrubby plants that are treed, generally grow taller than if left to grow naturally. VAR = height varies.

Growth Rate:
R = rapid
M = moderate.

Water:
Estimated water requirements after plant becomes established (after 1 to 3 years).
A = average (18-24" per yr.)
L = low (12-17" per yr.)
X = xeric (7-11" per yr.).
-D = indicates that the plant is somewhat to very drought tolerant.

e = partly evergreen or semi-evergreen (loses some or all foliage when temperature gets cold enough).

p = part sun (morning sun with afternoon shade is best)
s = mostly shade or filtered sun

Footnotes:

1. To minimize wind damage, stake and prune when young to develop strong framework.

2. Hardiness varies. The hardiest cultivar is borderline for this area, withstanding cold to about - 10 degrees F, so make sure to obtain the hardiest. Watch adaptability.

3. Not all plants of this species are suitable for planting in Dammeron Valley.
