Utah's Color Country
Iron Mission State Park

When iron deposits were discovered in southern Utah in the 1850s, Brigham Young sent Mormon missionaries to mine iron at a site near Coal Creek (Cedar City).

Today you can see what life was like for those early pioneers at Iron Mission State Park in Cedar City. Open year round, the park's museum houses a large collection of horse-drawn vehicles dating from 1870 to 1930. Wagons, coaches, a bullet-scarred overland coach, buggies, farm vehicles and machinery are on display. Pioneer and antique furniture, tools, housewares, clothing, and other items are featured at Iron Mission. Indian artifacts including clothing, hunting weapons, and food processing tools that were once used by Southern Paiutes are also displayed.

A picnic area is available at the park. The museum is open daily 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with extended hours in the summer. The museum is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.
