WASATCH COUNTY

WASATCH COUNTY
Heber City/Midway

With its lush green farmland, friendly rural communities, and easily-accessible mountains, Wasatch County is a land rich in tradition and recreational opportunity.

Wasatch County is located 40 minutes southeast of Salt Lake City on the east slope of the Wasatch Mountains, isolated from the bustle and traffic of the Wasatch Front. Here you'll discover a world of outdoor recreation which includes golfing, fishing, boating, wind-surfing, sail plane rides, and much more.

Almost any summer afternoon you'll find Deer Creek Reservoir dotted with the colorful sails of water-sport enthusiasts. Strawberry Reservoir has been a favorite Utah fishing spot for more than 60 years. Much of Wasatch County is under the management of the Uinta National Forest which maintains numerous scenic roads, camp-grounds, picnic areas and group-use facilities. The first European visitors to the area were led by Father Dominguez Escalante, a Franciscan Friar, in the late 1700s. Jagged mountain peaks and mountain farmland surrounding Midway attracted Swiss Mormon immigrants who found the area reminiscent of their European homeland. The Swiss heritage of these settlers is evident today in many examples of the areaÕs architecture and during the annual Swiss Day's Festival held in the fall.
