MOUNTAINLAND DRIVING TOURS

Utah has designated a number of roads as Scenic Byways or Backways. These roads are an easily accessible diversion from the main roads where you can discover the beauty of the wilderness. Following are just a few of the many Scenic Byways and Backways in Mountainland. Mirror Lake Scenic Byway (E4)
This paved road (Hwy 150) passes through heavily-forested mountain terrain, climbing to 10,687 feet above sea level. Length - 65 miles. Closed in winter. Kamas - Evanston, WY.

Mount Nebo Scenic Byway (C8)
Providing breathtaking views of Utah Valley and the Wasatch Mountains, this paved Byway climbs to over 9,000 feet. Length - 38 miles. Closed in winter. Payson - Nephi.

Provo Canyon Scenic Byway (C6)
This paved route (US 189) winds through impressive Provo Canyon past Bridal Veil Falls to Deer Creek Reservoir and on to Heber Valley. Length - 32 miles. Open year-round. Provo - Heber.

Alpine Loop Scenic Backway (C6)
This paved road (Hwy 92) winds up American Fork Canyon crossing impressive aspen groves, lush vegetation, and views of Mt. Timpanogos. The backway is 24 miles in length and passes Timpanogos Cave National Monument and Sundance Resort. Closed in winter. American Fork - Provo Canyon. (A1)

Cascade Springs Scenic Backway (D5)
Beginning at the summit between American Fork and Provo Canyons, the pavement portion of the road ends at Cascade Springs where a large mountain spring cascades down a series of limestone terraces and pools. From the springs, a steep and narrow dirt road continues north to Midway. Length- 25 miles. Closed in winter. Sundance - Midway.

Guardsman Pass Scenic Backway (D4)
This partially paved road (Hwy 190/224) travels through forests and valleys to the summit area between Big Cottonwood Canyon and the Park City resort area. Length -14 miles. Closed in winter. Park City - Brighton.

Pioneer Memorial Scenic Backway (D2)
This paved road (Hwy 65) follows the route taken by Mormon Pioneers with historical markers along the way. Length - 34 miles. Closed in winter. Henefer - Salt Lake City.
