FLAMING GORGE NATIONAL RECREATION AREA

A visit to the NE corner of the Ashley National Forest, 41 miles north of Vernal, offers a 91-mile lake, a blue-ribbon trout fishery, a scenic river corridor, a geologic loop surrounded by unbelievable scenery, camping facilities, and more.

Visitors will find complete marina facilities including boat rentals, launching ramps, lodges, and camping sites of all kinds. Take exciting tours down the beautiful Green River, below Flaming Gorge Dam, and travel through a scenic river corridor that offers some of the best trout fishing in the world. Trophy mackinaw are frequently taken from the waters of Lake Flaming Gorge. A recent record catch weighed in at 51 1/2 pounds!

Craggy rocks jutting towards the heavens in the Sheep Creek Geological Loop tell a story of the earth covering millions of years, as fissures, faults and formations bare the soul of this region's past. Scenic vistas are easily reached at Red Canyon, Antelope Flat and Fire Hole.

Visitors are required to obtain a "Use Pass". Single-Day Use Passes can be purchased for $2, 16-day passes cost $5 and annual passes cost $20. There are visitor centers at the Dam (open year round) and at Red Canyon Overlook (open seasonally.) Tours of the Dam are also available seasonally.
