DINOSAURLAND!....a name that conjures up visions of a prehistoric era, of ancient inland seas, great fern forests and mighty beasts roaming the land. This is only one aspect of what is to be discovered in DINOSAURLAND!

Northeastern Utah offers a great diversity of history and scenery not found anywhere else. Ancient Indians once hunted here, great waves of pioneers crossed our valleys and Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch knew the hidden canyons like the backs of their hands. Today the modern Ute Tribe and descendents of the pioneers live side by side.

Aided by faulting, earthquakes and the erosional forces of mighty waters, the area's rich geological history has been exposed for all to see at Dinosaur National Monument, on the Drive Through the Ages, at Red Fleet State Park and in the Sheep Creek Geological Area.

The fascinating and colorful history of the area is brought to life each summer during the Outlaw Trail Festival. Cowboys test their courage against broncos and bulls at the Ute Indian PowWow, Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo, Rough Rider Days, and many other such area events.

Mountains and water are important elements in this landscape. The Uinta Mountains are the highest range in Utah, and a major east/west range in the Western Hemisphere. The winter snows that blanket the peaks melt in the spring to feed sparkling streams, which fill natural lakes and reservoirs and run into major tributaries of the Colorado River System. Record catches come from the waters of Lake Flaming Gorge, which forms the heart of the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. World class fly-fishing can be found on the Green River, below Flaming Gorge Dam. The Green and Yampa Rivers also offer unparalleled white-water rafting through Dinosaur National Monument, as does the Green below Flaming Gorge Dam.

DINOSAURLAND is accessed by major highways, U.S. 191 and U.S. 40. Vernal is serviced by Skywest Airlines, providing air service to and from several cities, including Salt Lake City, UT, Las Vegas and Reno, NV.

Whatever your needs, whether you are traveling across U.S. 40, the Dinosaur Triangle, or the Heart of the Rockies Loop to Yellowstone, DINOSAURLAND offers exciting possibilities and first class accommodations for your visit.
