The Pine Valley Chapel

Pine Valley Chapel

The Pine Valley Chapel was built in 1868 and is the oldest continuously used building in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It is still loved and used by members today. The Pine Valley Chapel was beautifully restored and is now a summer branch with regular Sunday services held from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Pine Valley History

Inside the chapel are the original doors and wood work chapel made of pine and refinished to look like oak. Since its completion in 1868, the Pine Valley Chapel has been and remains the focal point of the community. The stage (behind the pulpit) has been used for theatrical productions and community gatherings. The chapel was also used as a school house.

The attic rafters pvrafters were built like the bottom of a ship. Only wooden pegs and square iron nails were used in the building. The responsibility to plan and construct the chapel was given to Ebenezer Bryce, a shipbuilder by trade. He agreed to build it only if he could do it his own way, using shipbuilding techniques.

In a small room located at the top of a narrow winding staircase prayer-room is one of the original organs in the chapel. The room that houses the organ is called the prayer room.
