Near Monument Valley: Travel into the interior of Monument Valley by private vehicle is prohibited. A limited section of dirt road called the tourist loop is available, but the best way to see Monument Valley is with an experienced guide. This timeless, mile-high monument paradise is located in the lade of the Navajo. Fifteen hundred square miles of monuments, mesas and buttes. Here, the classic John Ford film "Stagecoach" was filmed in 1939. Since then, countless other films and commercials have been filmed in the Valley. Daily, Navajo life and culture goes on much as it has since the turn of the century.

Navajo Visitor Center/Museum - Campground and tours available. Located 24 miles south of Mexican Hat or 28 miles north of Kayenta, Arizona. Allow 1-4 hours.

Gouldings Lodge/Trading Post/Museum - Nestled at the foot of towering red rock cliffs. Tours into the valley are available. The museum is housed in the original 1926 residence and trading post with rooms paying tribute to the Navajo people of the area and movies filmed in Monument Valley. The cabin from "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon," locally referred to as John Wayne's cabin, is here. Campground and hospital. Two miles west of US 163 near Utah/Arizona border.
