Actiontec 1520 and 1524 Modem

Device Installation
The Actiontec external modems require either a NIC (network card) in your computer, or an available USB connector on the computer. Do not plug the modem into a USB hub, it will not work. An Ethernet cable, or USB cable connects the external modem and your computer.

Device Configuration

To configure the Actiontec DSL Modem, insert the CD that came with the modem first. Follow the directions and select the appropriate connection type for your computer. When the Installation Buddy asks for the "Welcome Letter", refer to the information below:

  • The connection type is PPPoA
  • The username and password were set up when you signed up, type them in.
  • The IP type is Dynamic (DHCP)
At this point, the Installation Buddy will configure your modem. If an error appears on the screen, call InfoWest technical support.
TCP/IP Setup

The Actiontec modem, when connected to a DSL line, is assigned its IP address from our servers. Your computer should be be set to obtain an IP address automatically. The Arescom will give your computer an IP address and all other necessary information including DNS server information.

Connecting Multiple Computers

Actiontec External DSL modems can share their Internet connection and integrate into an existing network. The modem has four ethernet ports on it, if you want to connect more than four computers, you will need a hub or switch to plug into the modem, and plug the computers into that device. Each of your computers can plug into the ports on the modem. Your DSL modem will receive an IP address when it has completed its connection to our system across the DSL line. In turn, the DSL modem can assign (DHCP) a private IP address to each of the computer connected to the hub. This use of NAT, Network Address Translation, will provide security.
